A Hole in One...

We just got home from a beautiful wedding in Bethlehem, PA of our friends, Jaime and Chris. Despite being very tired, Bryce did really well throughout the ceremony and well into the reception. His favorite part of the wedding was getting to run through the grass and wave at all of the cars and trucks that drove by. In the picture, you can see that he found the perfect Bryce-sized hole to sit in, too!

Potty Time

I think we have a long way to go before Bryce is ready to be potty trained. You can't really tell from these still pictures, but Bryce was having a blast this evening using his potty as a car to drive around! This kind of behavior is entertaining now, but I will definitely frown upon using the potty as a car if it has been used as a potty first!

He's a Bird...He's a Plane...

Bryce found these small branches with leaves on the playground today. He had a lot of fun waving them around. Then he found one for me and we were able to make a lot of "leaf music" together! I thought that with a little more practice and a bowl of peeled grapes, I could have had a very nice afternoon being fanned!

...and He's Out!

Jeremy and I were getting ready for work this morning when we heard the sound of a doorknob rattling. We thought it was Puddy, but it wasn't, so we opened up Bryce's bedroom door and... found him running around in his room! Apparently, the mattress I put down under his crib yesterday was very well timed! I guess this means we are shopping for a new bed this weekend.

In other news, Bryce had his 18 month check-up today and he is perfectly healthy! He now weighs 21.2 pounds (the third percentile) and is 31.5" tall. Bryce was not happy about the check-up, but then his doctor gave him a book about trucks...now he is in love!

Puddle Jumping

We were supposed to have big rain storms all day today, but we lucked out and had a really sunny (and hot) afternoon. Bryce and I took advantage of the sun and played in the park. Our first stop was the tot lot where there was a big puddle that was perfect for jumping in! Then, we went out into the meadow area. Bryce chased a couple of older kids under a tree and discovered a really fun fort...which he shared with his baby!

The Big *18* (months, that is...)

Make video montages at www.OneTrueMedia.com

Bryce, Jeremy and I tackled cleaning up our backyard today. We inherited some plants and needed to get them in the ground before they died. Jeremy and I had thought we would quickly go plant them while Bryce slept, but Bryce refused to sleep and the planting did not go quickly. There were a lot of rocks and debris to clean out - luckily, Bryce could help with that! Later, Bryce got a hold of the little rake, but found that it was more fun to bang on a rock than use it in the soil. After playing in all of the dirt and dirty water, I brought Bryce in for a much needed bath. Bryce then wanted to play in his crib. I tried to capture his chatter and play on video by just barely poking the camera around the door frame, but Bryce saw it and used this opportunity to show me what his next "milestone" is going to be!

Happy Memorial Day, everyone!

Feeding the Ducks

We walked a bit further into the park today...to the lake, in order to feed the ducks. I brought several slices of not-stale Dark German Wheat bread to share with the birds. We first found a swan, but he/she spit out the bread. Then we tried to feed several ducks, but they weren't interested. Finally, we found two hungry Canada Geese! Bryce had fun throwing the bread, though most of his pieces landed at Jeremy's feet...which made Jeremy a little nervous! Some of these birds can get a little aggressive with their food. Ultimately, Bryce decided that the geese didn't need all of that bread...he should eat some, too!

Turtle Time

Finally, we have some spring like weather in Brooklyn! Bryce, Jeremy, Grandpa Mac and I went to the Prospect Park Zoo. Bryce loved watching the sea lions and prairie dogs. We also went over to the petting zoo, but Bryce refused to pet any of the animals. Perhaps, the best part was getting in the turtle shell. I was going to get in, too, but I would have needed a much larger shell!

Lazy Picnic

Bryce took a late nap this afternoon, so when he woke up, we took off to the park to have a picnic dinner. Jeremy walked ahead of Bryce and me, so he had the blanket laid out and was laying on it by the time we got over to him. I guess Bryce thought his daddy looked comfortable because he rushed over to lay down, too! When it was time to leave we told Bryce that we were going home. He spent the whole walk back saying, "home, home, home..."

Crib Play

Bryce has taken to wanting to play in his crib. I get him up from his nap and he runs out grabs his trucks and then comes back to his crib and begs to get in. I think it is because he wants to keep his pacifier in and I tell him that he can only have it when he is in his crib!

Just Darn Cute

No stories today, just one cute kid!

Sleepyhead

I think Bryce was trying to send Jeremy and me a message today. After he got up from his nap and had played for a couple of hours, Bryce went into his room, pulled out his blanket and pacifier from his crib, laid the blanket on the floor... and laid down on top of it! We were stunned! He laid there for quite a while, then got up and played for a few minutes...and then went and laid back down. Needless to say, Bryce went to bed early this evening!

Birds, Blueberries and Style

This afternoon, Bryce and I went to the park. We stopped off first at the tot lot, but a kid took Bryce's stroller (which really upset him), so as soon as he got it back, he took off for the lawn. We wandered around for a while and then Bryce noticed a whole bunch of birds eating in the middle of the lawn. He ran down to try to catch some, but didn't have any luck. None of the birds flew away - they just kept moving steadily out of his reach. We left the birds and came home for dinner and a bath. After his bath, Bryce put on his own boots (not the right feet) and ate a whole bunch of dried blueberries (which made the bath null and void). Oh well...!

1, 2, 3... Timber!

One of Bryce's favorite game is to climb up on our bed and then throw himself face-down on the comforter and pillow when we say, "1, 2, 3...Timber!" It is a little alarming because his "aim" isn't always the best and he has gone off the edge of the bed once. Obviously, he wasn't too bothered by the fall because he is always ready to play this game!

Hide 'n Seek

Nathan stopped by this afternoon for an impromptu play date! Bryce started a fun game of hide 'n seek in the clothes closet. Bryce crawled in first and then Nathan walked around calling, "Bryce? Where's Bryce?" Finally, Nathan found Bryce and they spent much of the afternoon "hiding" from Jeremy and me!

Keys, please

Bryce's newest word is "key" and he loves to play with them! Here he is putting the keys in the lock on the closet door. He then tells me "bye-bye" and goes into the closet. After a few moments, he opens the door and gives me an enthusiastic "hi"!

Backwards Day...

Bryce spent a lot of the day walking backwards...around the house, in the office, on the sidewalk, with the stroller... Then, he fell while running forwards in the hall and decided that while he was down on the ground, he might as well try scooting backwards on his belly!

New Wheels

Bryce got his own stroller today! This motivated him to walk all over town and to show his baby all of the sights. At one point, Bryce fell forward and didn't let go of the stroller. He banged his hands/arms on the sidewalk, which of course, made him cry. He didn't really get hurt, just scared. I knelt down and gave him lots of hugs and kisses until he felt better. He then started pointing to his baby, saying "up". I asked him if he wanted to check and make sure his baby wasn't hurt in the fall. He nodded and picked up his baby and started giving him lots of hugs and kisses. It was so sweet!

Alfresco Snack

The garden at our office is lovely on a beautiful spring day, like today. Bryce enjoyed his apple snack on the patio and then really enjoyed running back and forth from the office to the yard! He would put a key in the door, say "bye-bye", shut the door, run out in the yard, then come back, open the door and say "hi"... over and over again!

Truckin'

Bryce loves all forms of transportation, but particularly loves his trucks! These are actually puzzle pieces that he uses like "real" trucks. He likes to drive them all around the window sills and radiator covers - making all of the sound effects as he goes. This was the perfect choice of play for today because the weather was miserable (rain and 40 m.p.h. winds), and after one foray outside, I wasn't willing to go out again!

Happy Mother's Day!

To celebrate Mother's Day, Jeremy, Bryce and I planted a flowering cherry tree in front our investment property. This is part of the 1 Million Trees campaign (to plant 1 million trees by 2010 in NYC). We walked out of our apartment yesterday to see a whole bunch of trees being given away across the street, so after our run in the park, we went over and claimed one for ourselves. We even carried it over to our property via the subway! Bryce loved playing in the dirt...and quite honestly, I think all 3 of us had fun getting our hands in the soil!

Raining Cats and Dogs

It was a soggy, cold day here in Brooklyn, so Bryce and I played inside all day. To keep things interesting, we had an afternoon play-date with Nathan (who lives on the 6th floor). Nathan is about 9 months older than Bryce, but they LOVE each other. After all the running around with Nathan, Bryce was ready for an early bedtime - the best part was storytime with Puddy!

Cherry Blossoms

There is a stand of huge cherry trees right where we first walk into the park. It is (and has been) particularly lovely for the past few weeks with all of the blooms. Bryce really loves this area, too, but he likes it because it is on a little hill and he can see all of the buses and cars from a better vantage point!

Body Parts

Bryce has learned the names of his body parts. Here's what you see when you ask,
"Bryce, where is your belly button?"
And "Bryce, where is your nose?""Where is your hair?"
"Where is your eye?"
"Bryce, where is your mouth?"
"Where are your feet?"
"Bryce, where is your ear?"

And now, the funny story of the evening... We finished dinner and it was time for Bryce's bath. Jeremy took off all of Bryce's clothes and diaper and went into the bathroom to turn the water on. Bryce likes to come help get the bath ready, so he ran in after Jeremy. Bryce was bored with waiting for the water to fill the tub (or so we thought) and came out to the living room. Jeremy made sure that I saw him, which I did, and didn't worry about it. I was chatting with Bryce and then noticed that he was standing VERY still on the rug. This means he is trying to go to the bathroom... I am frantically running around trying to find his potty, but am too late. Bryce poops on the rug! Jeremy can't hear me because the water is running, so I get Bryce off the rug. Bryce poops again on the wood floor. At this point, Jeremy comes out and I start cleaning up the rug and floor. I am telling the story to Jeremy when we look over and see that Bryce has run over to the rug again and this time is peeing! Moral of the story - no naked time right after dinner!
