Bryce, Jeremy and I took a quick vacation to Buffalo and Jamestown, NY to visit several of Jeremy's relatives. We arrived in Buffalo on Friday afternoon and then had dinner with Bryce's Great-Aunt Nudie and his Great-Great Grandma Shannon. It was the first time Bryce had met any of the Shannon's of Buffalo, and I think he made a great impression! After dinner, we kept Bryce up way past his bedtime so that he could meet his Great-Uncles, Tim and Goog and his Great-Aunt Miriam and his cousins, Casey and Brendan.
The next morning, after a nice breakfast with Nudie; we took off for Jamestown. Bryce took a short nap in the car and before he knew it, he was meeting new relatives (or almost relatives!) - Laurie and George. Bryce's Oma was there, too! The biggest deal for Bryce was meeting Penny, the cocker-spaniel. Bryce wasn't sure about Penny at first, but by the end of our visit, he was in love! He even would wake up in the morning and point at the door and bark... he wanted to go find Penny, first thing! After lunch, where Bryce developed a love for sugar cookies with sprinkles, we went over to visit Helen and Vern. Bryce kept everyone entertained as roamed through the room looking for things to get into. We then headed to the hotel for a nap. Jeremy and I slept, but Bryce stayed up and played in his crib. This made for one tired little kid when we went back to Laurie's and George's house for dinner. Laurie and George made yummy lasagna and salad, but Bryce wasn't interested in food until Laurie brought out dessert...ice cream! Bryce went after it with both hands and a spoon!
On Sunday morning, we took a nice long walk in the woods behind Laurie and George's house and then went back to the hotel for a nap. This time, Bryce slept! Later that afternoon, we visited with Bryce's Great-Uncle Rick, Great-Aunt Beth and cousin, Jenny. They had pulled out some toys for Bryce and I don't think Bryce ever looked up to see who was around...he headed straight for the toys and started playing! By then, it was dinner time and we met up with Laurie and George at "The Growler". We had a very tasty and very filling dinner (thanks to Helen and Vern for the treat!).
The next morning, we got up early and dropped Oma off at the airport and then drove back to Buffalo to catch our flight. This where the story should end, but it doesn't. We got to the airport rather early - so early, we could have technically gotten on an earlier flight. Unfortunately, that flight was full before I thought to ask if we could switch. That flight ended up leaving an hour later than it should have, which pushed our flight back an hour, too. We all got on the plane (which was full of children) and they announced that the flight was going to be delayed for another 2 hours. They offered that we could sit on the plane and watch the movies... ha! Not with a toddler! So we went out and played in the airport. We then boarded the plane again when required, only to be told that the flight had been delayed for another 2 hours! Everyone had to get off this time. We debated whether or not to reschedule for the next morning, but the ticket agent strongly recommended that we stay on the flight because the weather seemed to be improving around JFK. Luckily she was right and 8 hours later than expected, we arrived home safe and sound.
Jeremy and I have determined that we have the most wonderful, patient, adaptable child after all of this crazy traveling. Despite going to bed really late and not taking naps, Bryce stayed in good spirits and charmed everyone who crossed his path!
